Diagnostic Interview
The first session opens with a structured interview that explores recent stressors, recent symptoms, history of symptoms, psychiatric history, medical history, family history and social history, including childhood and trauma. Your comfort is important, and it is always optional to disclose details. The interview concludes with an explanation of diagnosis and treatment plan such as lab work, medication management and therapy recommendations.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)
A non-invasive procedure targeting treatment for Major Depressive Disorder. TMS uses a magnet to generate an electric impulse that stimulates the area in the brain responsible for depression. TMS is an outpatient procedure that is performed in-office and does not require anesthesia.
Medication Management
In the first session, Dr. Velazquez will collect information about prior treatment including history of medication trials, therapy, hospitalizations and procedures. It is helpful to know dates and doses of medication trials as well as current doses of all medications. Dr. Velazquez will then work with you to design a treatment plan that may include medication taper, cross titration or initiation. Dr. Velazquez will explain pros and cons of each medication, including side effect profiles and mechanisms of action.
